Back in May, Make-A-Wish® Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana placed an order for a Backyard Discovery wooden swing set. As part of Backyard Discovery’s family, we saw this order come through. Immediately, Step2 was moved to reach out to see if there was anything Step2 could donate for Zowie’s wish.
Fourteen-year-old Zowie, who was diagnosed with a neurological disorder, wished to have an outdoor oasis where she could play and enjoy the outdoors in the comfort of her own backyard. After hearing about her wish, we made a special delivery for sweet Zowie and dropped off a sandbox (she loves playing in the sand) and an outdoor bench where she could sit and relax after playtime was over.
While we were there dropping off the sandbox and bench, we learned that cars in Zowie’s neighborhood often zoom down the street and her family could use the help of Safety Sam. On the day of the big reveal, which we had been anticipating for months, we surprised the family with some KidAlert signs to display in their neighborhood as well as a dino table and toddler swing for Zowie’s little brother (even though it was his sister’s big day, we couldn’t stop by without a little something for him!).
Watching the two of them swing side-by-side melted our hearts. Zowie’s mom shared with us that swinging was one of Zowie’s favorite things to do, but she never had a place where she could swing. Now she does.
We were honored to be part of this wish and appreciate the warm welcome we felt from Zowie’s family and Make-A-Wish® Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana. Watching Zowie play on her new swing set in her personal backyard oasis truly reinforced the mission of our products and company – to bring family together.
