Step2 and Backyard Discovery are now one big family. Together, as the largest outdoor toy company in North America, we are on a mission to inspire active, imaginative, and creative play that gets kids moving.
In an era where even the smallest screens compete for our children’s attention, our products – from wooden swing sets and playhouses to play kitchens and ride-ons and wagons – allow kids to discover the world through their senses. This type of play helps to build fine motor skills, strength and coordination, and enhance cognitive and social development.
This integration now allows for Step2 to offer a larger portfolio of materials for children’s toys, including wood (hint hint), while promising the same mission – to bring family together.

Reinventing the Backyard Family Experience
Our new family goes beyond toys. Home by Step2 and Backyard Discovery home and garden products bring family together in the backyard. From pergolas and ready sheds to mailboxes and decorative ponds, we bring the entire family together in the backyard.
How Step2 and Backyard Discovery Became One Family
Step2 was acquired by Aterian Investment Partners in October 2016 and Backyard Discovery was acquired by the same private equity firm in August 2015. As a result, due to the natural synergies between both brands and a shared mission to bring family together, Step2 and Backyard Discovery decided to integrate and become one company to offer families products that enhance the family dynamic and ultimately allow for more time together.
Backyard Discovery currently offers assembly services through Go Configure, and Step2 has plans in the near future to offer the same assembly services for Step2 product assembly (music to mom’s and dad’s ears!).
